Squirrels are animals native to Legarion (brown and gray species) and the Ketten Wastelands (gray species). Some squirrels in Legarion posses higher intelligence, magic capabilities and have built a society lead by the Squirrel Queen.
Were-squirrels are human children of cannibal villagers in Legarion who turn into beasts during a full moon. Aelloon and the Legion tore through their village and burned everything they could while also kidnapping the children, handing them over to the Squirrel Queen's control. The children were controlled and succesfully served as a distraction for Cale'anon, luring him and Richard north until a full moon enabled them to ambush the pair. They were eventually reunited with their village and eaten.
According to the Squirrel Queen's story - long ago, after the Bust of a Nut, the peaceful humanoid race called Squirrel-folk walked beyond their borders to explore their world, where they encountered the aggressive tribe of Rakkuns.

Squirrels:
- The Squirrel Queen, a squirrel with magic capabilities with powers coming from contact with blood. She witnessed the death of the previous squirrel monarch. Another squirrel took the crown, but were stomped to death by a Rakkun. The unnamed future queen used her magic to defeat the Rakkun and imprison them within the Underworld. Later, she made a deal with Legion-commander Aelloon to mind-control a bunch of kidnapped children as were-squirrels, but decided to break the spell when Richard and Cale'anon defeated the Rakkuns in the Underworld.
